About
The news, skimmed. Every weekday morning.
Morning Skim exists for one reason: keeping up should not cost you an hour and your good mood. We read widely so you can read briefly.
What we believe
Most people do not need more news. They need less of it, chosen well and written plainly. A short, honest brief beats an endless feed. Context beats outrage. And a newsletter you can finish beats one you feel guilty for ignoring.
So every morning we look across tech, business, science, world affairs, and culture, pick the handful of stories that genuinely matter, and write each one in a few clear sentences. If a story is complicated, we say what is known and what is not. If it is hyped, we say that too.
How an issue comes together
The editorial routine is simple and repeatable:
- Scan. We read the day's major reporting across a broad set of reputable outlets.
- Select. We choose the stories that pass a plain test: will this still matter next week, and can we explain why it matters in a paragraph.
- Skim. We rewrite each one in short, jargon-free language, and link to the original reporting so you can go deeper whenever you want.
- Send. It lands in your inbox before most mornings really get going.
Where we stand on the important stuff
Independence. We link to original sources and describe them fairly. Our aim is to help you understand a story, not to sell you a side.
Privacy. A newsletter should not spy on you. We collect the email address you give us and nothing more than the basic delivery information any mail provider needs. No profiling, no selling lists, no tracking you around the web. You can read the details on our privacy page, and you can leave in one click, anytime.
Honesty about who we are. Morning Skim is written and edited by a small independent team. We would rather be known for the quality of the read than for a wall of famous bylines.
